In order to install Interpex DOS
based software under Windows NT, certain criteria must be met.
1. The package you are trying to install must be able to run under Windows NT. 2. The copy protection system your package is protected must be compatible with Windows NT. 3. You must be running the correct version of Windows NT. 4. You need to establish a shortcut to install the package. The default MS-DOS prompt in Windows NT will not work due to the way it allocates memory.
1. Software Compatibility The following is a list of software packages that will successfully run under Windows NT.
2. Copy Protection Compatibility Once you have established that the program that you are planning to run under Windows NT is capable of doing so, you need to make sure your program is protected using a HARDWARE KEY. Program protected with Software keys will NOT run under Windows NT. In most cases a replacement program can be obtained for a minimal cost, however if your program is not the current selling version you might be required to update to the latest version. In addition to being protected with a hardware key, you are required to install a Windows NT driver for the hardware key. They driver can be found at: ftp://ftp.interpex.com/interpex/ntsetup.zip Download this driver and unzip the contents to a temporary directory. Consult the README file for installation instructions.
3. Correct Windows NT version The above driver will only function in Windows NT v4 with Service Pack 2 installed.
4. Creating the Windows NT shortcut If you try to use the standard COMMAND PROMPT under Windows NT, the installation of some of the Interpex programs will fail. The standard command prompt under Windows NT only assigns 1 MB of extended memory. The Interpex installation program checks for available memory and will not install the program if the memory is not available. To overcome this limitation of the COMMAND PROMPT, you need to establish a shortcut that will assign more memory. Detail on how to do this can be found in the following PDF document.
